Position Overview:

Senior User Experience Researcher

The Engineering & Products Department at Open Learning is looking for a full-time Senior UX Researcher to join a team with big ambitions to redefine the use of technology in teaching and learning at MIT and beyond. Our digital products, including MIT Open, OpenCourseWare, MITx Online, MIT xPro, and MIT Bootcamps, are used by millions of learners and educators worldwide. You will play a crucial role in understanding user behavior, needs, and preferences to shape the design and evolution of our user-focused digital offerings and services.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

User Research: Working with the product team, identify, define and refine research questions. Conduct in-depth user research using multiple methods such as interviews, surveys, usability testing, and analytics to gather insights into user behavior and preferences.

Persona Development: Create detailed user personas that represent the diverse needs and characteristics of our target audience, helping to inform design decisions and product strategies.

Usability Testing: Plan and execute usability testing sessions to evaluate the effectiveness of prototypes and existing products and provide actionable recommendations for improvement.

A/B Testing: Design and implement A/B tests to measure the impact of design changes or new features on user behavior and satisfaction and derive insights to optimize the user experience.

Data Analysis: Analyze both quantitative and qualitative data to uncover patterns, trends, and insights that can inform design decisions and enhance the overall user experience.

Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and developers, to ensure a user-centric approach throughout the product development lifecycle.

Prototype Evaluation: Assess and iterate on design prototypes, wireframes, and user flows based on user feedback and usability findings.

Competitor Analysis: Stay updated on industry trends and conduct competitor analysis to identify best practices and opportunities for innovation in the user experience.

Communication: Effectively communicate research findings and insights to internal stakeholders, making recommendations for improvements and advocating for the user's perspective.

Qualifications & Skills: 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Design, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience as a UX Researcher or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles.
  • Proficiency in conducting various research methods and tools.
  • Experience with designing and conducting A/B tests.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Familiarity with industry-standard design and prototyping tools.
  • Experience with tools like PostHog or similar
  • Experience in e-commerce space, both B2C and B2B 

 

The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $130,000, final salary to be determined by MIT’s compensation team based on the skills and experience of the candidate.
