Position Overview:

The Instructional Designer and Program Manager is a member of the MIT xPRO team, reporting to the Senior Instructional Designer and Program Manager of MIT xPRO. 

The Instructional Designer and Program Manager partners with MIT faculty to design, develop, deliver learning curricula for MIT xPRO online courses and programs. The Instructional Designer and Program Manager also oversees and manages third party vendors in the creation and translation of new MIT xPRO courses and programs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Partner and collaborate with MIT faculty to design and develop the learning experiences (online, blended, and in-person) for professional education courses and programs 

  • Apply knowledge of adult learning theory and learning strategies to the design and development of online learning solutions

  • Create original learning deliverables (assessments, activities, and content) such as projects, assignments, practice exercises, reflections, check your knowledge questions, discussion prompts, podcasts, and more

  • Oversee all project management aspects of courses and programs through the development process to market launch

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with video, marketing, sales, customer support, engineering, and finance to ensure all groups have the information they need to do their jobs effectively

  • Oversee and manage third party relationships ensuring that the courses and programs they develop are on brand and represent MIT and its faculty well

  • Partner with third parties to not just develop courses, but have a global strategy that includes translations and ways to penetrate new markets

  • Evaluate course performance and refine course reruns based on learner, customer, and faculty feedback

  • Ensure all programs are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget

  • Port all content into the technology platform that delivers MIT xPRO programs

  • Perform Quality Assurance and beta testing for online courses and programs

  • Develop and maintain course and program documentation

Supervision Received:

Supervision is provided by the Senior Instructional Designer and Program Manager of MIT xPRO.

Supervision Exercised:

No direct reports. May monitor and coordinate the work of students and temps.

Qualifications & Skills: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design or related field

  • Three years of relevant experience

  • Proven ability in designing a variety of learning solutions for a broad array of delivery methods (e.g., online, blended, instructor-led, simulations, mobile)

  • Proven experience with technology-based learning design

  • Project management skills, including proactive written and oral communication skills, managing workload to stay within budget and deadlines

  • Exceptional collaboration skills and relationship management with faculty, SMEs, and stakeholders

  • Adept at identifying and framing problems, setting priorities, and making critical assessments
  • Graphic design skills a plus, but not required

  • Experience working in fast-paced setting and managing multiple stakeholders and deadlines

The salary range for this position is $78,000 - $83,000, final salary to be determined by MIT’s compensation team based on the skills and experience of the candidate.
